Portable Payments

I rebuilt my card-reader comparison website to help small businesses choose with confidence, bringing a fresh design, practical guides and a fee calculator together.

A fresh look and a clear starting point: find a reader or explore the costs.

The goal

Choosing a reader is about more than the headline fee

A market stall, a café and a mobile business can need quite different things from a card reader. The device price is only part of the decision: connectivity, transaction fees and monthly charges all matter. Portable Payments is one of my own projects, rebuilt to make those choices easier to understand.

Where I came in

I brought the idea, website design, comparison content and interactive tools together into a complete, mobile-friendly experience.

The work

What we delivered.

A clearer way to find a good fit

I gave the site a fresh visual direction and organised it around the questions a business owner would ask. Side-by-side comparisons, simple filters and practical buying guides help visitors narrow down the options, whether they need a standalone reader or one that pairs with a phone.

Make the numbers useful

The fee calculator lets visitors use their own sales figures to compare estimated monthly and first-year costs. It puts fixed charges, percentages and optional subscriptions into context, with clear assumptions and links to provider information rather than a blanket ‘best reader’ recommendation.

A closer look.

The fee calculator pairs editable sales figures with estimated monthly and first-year costs for five plans.
Try your own numbers. The calculator turns different fee structures into comparable estimates.

The result

What it made possible.

A complete comparison website that brings research, useful tools and approachable design into one place. Visitors can explore their options, work through the costs and reach the relevant provider with a better-informed shortlist.
